About Us
Flowers from Charlie the Merchant is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation, a local charity serving Kalamazoo County, Michigan and beyond since 2015. We try to fill the need to make someone’s life happier by giving them a gift in memory of our son Dennis Charles Wolf, called Charlie. Charlie was a cheerful boy who enjoyed selling and once requested a sign for his table labeled Charlie the Merchant.
At one point while I was merchandising cut flowers, we lamented the waste of throwing out many bouquets that were still mostly good. So, inspired after reading about Random Acts of Flowers (RAF), we started out hoping to repurpose imperfect flowers donated to us from florists, weddings, memorial services, etc., and just giving them away as bouquets to people at nursing homes, in the hospital, in hospice or a shelter and so on, whose spirits might need a lift. Really it’s a way for us to try to heal as well. We received a very positive response from recipients, and have since branched out into also gifting plants, plant seeds, jewelry, and painted rocks and sea shells.
